International collaborations in nursing research contribute to the creation of new nursing knowledge. Having access to current state-of-the-art nursing knowledge is widely sought in Japan. Japan’s nurses also feel an increasing need to disseminate their research findings in nursing care and related activities as well. However, while international cooperation in specialized fields of nursing is growing, international collaborations are difficult to achieve for a single nursing organization in single country.
To meet these increasing needs, the Japan Academy of Nursing Science proposes the establishment of the “World Academy of Nursing Science”.
The aim of establishing the World Academy of Nursing Science (WANS) is to contribute to the health and welfare of people worldwide through the promotion of international academic exchanges and collaborative research in the fields of nursing. Membership of the World Academy of Nursing Science is open to nursing-related academic institutions or organizations from every country. As it is difficult to monitor and manage individual memberships of institutions and organizations, members of institutions and organizations that belong to the World Academy of Nursing Science will be entitled to attend and deliver presentations at WANS Academic Conferences. Each member institution or organization shall appoint a representative to act as a member of the Board of Directors to determine the direction of the World Academy of Nursing Science. It is possible for multiple institutions or organizations from a country to be members of the World Academy of Nursing Science. The more members that participate, the greater the impetus given to the promotion of international research activities.
To fulfill the aims of the World Academy of Nursing Science, an Academic Conference will be held. The Academic Conference of the World Academy of Nursing Science, which is planned to be held every 2 years, will be held in the country of the Academic Conference chairperson, who will be elected from the members of the Board of Directors. The costs of holding the Academic Conference shall be covered by Academic Conference registration fees and other related sources. Congress financing will be accounted for independently of the World Academy of Nursing Science. Other activities that fulfill the academy’s aims will beheld as required.
The World Academy of Nursing Science hopes that our new academy will promote exchanges between many countries. As an international organization for the furtherance of more active international research cooperation, we will foster mutual interactions and the creation of greater nursing knowledge.
